Georgia wants Latino voters!

With the 2024 election on its way, the scramble to garner individual support and potential voters is ongoing. Georgia is typically known as a battleground state, especially seen in the competition between the Atlanta area (typically Democratic) against rural Georgia (typically Republican).

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Roughly one in 10 Georgia residents are Hispanic, and their growth in numbers has come with increased political power”

The Latino population/vote has continuously been ignored and reduced to conversation regarding immigration. Despite this Latinos very much have other interests and concerns within the state and the country as a whole. A survey done on Latinos showed their main concern for the upcoming 2024 election which was “The top five issues concerning Latinos in Georgia are the rising cost of living and inflation, improving wages and creating more jobs, lowering the cost of health care, protecting immigrant rights, and gun safety policy to address mass shootings, according to the survey first obtained by NBC News and released to the public Wednesday.”

This survey was done by Puente Para La Gente and was just recently released on November 1st. This survey could help not only the public but bring awareness to policymakers, political leaders, and candidates that the Latino population has concerns and they are and should be considered part of the political process. With this in mind, both political parties need to reach out to this margin of individuals especially when they could make the percentile difference between winning the state or not.

  1. Hi Dhamar, the focus on the different issues that Georgia's Latino people care about is very interesting to me. It's important to remember that their concerns go beyond immigration and include important problems like inflation, health care, and gun safety. This broader understanding is important for policymakers and political leaders to meet the needs of this growing and powerful group of voters, which shows how important it is for them to have a say in how policies are made in the future.
