Georgia wants Latino voters!

Image
With the 2024 election on its way, the scramble to garner individual support and potential voters is ongoing. Georgia is typically known as a battleground state, especially seen in the competition between the Atlanta area (typically Democratic) against rural Georgia (typically Republican).  According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution “ Roughly one in 10 Georgia residents are Hispanic, and their growth in numbers has come with increased political power” https://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-news/new-survey-georgia-latino-voters-share-top-concerns/XLUTUEVEXBCPNLFTKHAWTVITWM/ The Latino population/vote has continuously been ignored and reduced to conversation regarding immigration. Despite this Latinos very much have other interests and concerns within the state and the country as a whole. A survey done on Latinos showed their main concern for the upcoming 2024 election which was “The top five issues concerning Latinos in Georgia are the rising cost of living and inflation, improving wag...

Latinos for Republicans is a thing?

Image
As controversial as it sounds there's a growing trend among latinos to support republican candidates. And republicans are picking up on this and attempting to play catch up with democrats (as the demographic has typically favored democrats)  Many have noted that a lot of latino ideologies and beliefs are a lot closer to republicans on most issues. This can be attributed to older latinos more conservative ideals. Most (not all) latinos are catholic and heavily align with republican views on abortions. A video by the Washington Post takes into account the growing shift seen in Latino members of texas to vote for the republican party as many feel the the democratic party has continuously failed them. This growth was especially seen in the 2020 election were a mass movement of “Latinos for Trump” was seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byTn5qCKu8g Latinos desire for incorporation contributes to the process of americanization (assimilations). This can lead to not only the adoption of A...

Spa Water? Cowboy Caviar? what is it?

Image
Well, the names are actually agua fresca and ceviche, but these new names have been attributed to white Americans appropriating traditional Mexican food dishes. The problem comes from many individuals from the Latin American community accusing white Americans of not giving credit to the cultural origins of the meals and trying to pass them off as their own new trendy creations. This has led many to accuse white bloggers and creators of attempted gentrification traditional meals and renaming them things such as loaded corn (esquites), or seashell donuts (conchas)  Latino Podcast Ponte Las Pilas has addressed this issue and shed light on Latinos retaliation to the appropriation of Mexican dishes by reversing the role and giving American dishes new names in Spanish. https://www.tiktok.com/@pontelaspilaspodcast/video/7129720364992564526?_r=1&_t=8gSYmAA4bxC Many have counter-argued saying that eating Mexican food shouldn't be cultural appropriation which Latinos have also argued ag...

Third ones the charm? Latino, LatinX, Latine?

Image
The term LatinX is an American English term that is used to refer to Latin Americans in order to be more gender inclusive, but is it offensive and forcing American ideals? So what is so offensive about the term? Well, many Latin Americans who are native to Latin America and are non-english speakers say that the X makes no sense, and it makes sense. The pronunciation of the letter X in the Spanish language makes an S sound or even a H sound such as the pronunciation of Mexico (Me-He-Co). Those in Latin America say that the X makes no sense to native speakers and argue that it is actually not inclusive because it fails to consider native speakers and seems like an overall attempt to enforce American-English linguistics onto them. So who uses LatinX, well not that many people in a 2022 survey done by the Pew Research Center found that only around  2% prefer the term Latinx, but it could also be attributed to the fact that 76% of those who are from Latin America do not know or have not...

Upon impace the flame typical spread as the contents of the bottle are disbursed. This happened in the Cuban embassy in Washington D.C. Cuban foreign minister has labeled this as terrorist attack.
