We Are Part of America

Latino representation in the media is many times limited. This blog will highlight the depiction of Latinos in the media in relation to ongoing events affecting the community in regard to political decisions.

Latinos population in America continues to grow and their economic and cultural contribution to the American system must be acknowledged. According to the Pew Research Center, the Hispanic population reached 62.1 million in 2020 an increase of 23% over the previous decades. As of today, Latinos in America continue to face racial, ethnic, anti-immigrant, biases, and discrimination in employment, education, and in the political spectrum across the United States. Latinos are often underrepresented and ignored in political discussions. There are several barriers that attribute to this such as lack of representation, stereotyping/cultural bias, and language barriers. Efforts to address these challenges must require a multi-faceted approach to ensure that Latinos' voices and concerns can be amplified in the media and public discourse. As well as the proper recognition of the communities divisiveness.

  1. Your blog is very informational Dhamar! My blog also highlights the Latino significance in America. Latinos continue to face many barriers in political elections, especially in Georgia. The Latino population in Georgia is fairly large in four counties. These same four counties make it difficult for Latinos to cast their vote; therefore, making it challenging for Latinos to share their opinions in crucial elections. I strongly believe our community must continue to become informed and participate in politics to increase our representation.
